Comment by teacher Trudi Watts, Darlington Primary School, WA

"The Student Virtual Parliament programme started with students mildly interested, however, once they had experienced seeing their own issues and comments in print the interest escalated to one of real excitement.

There is talk amongst the students about how they can put issues forward that would get the others to vote for them. Students are talking and using the language of voting, debating and discussing of real issues.

The issues that can be 'placarded' on the site can be from any subject across the curriculum and, therefore, can be useful as a teaching tool for cooperative and independent learning. Ultimately, these students are learning to become learners, from others and their peers, whilst learning about how to become active citizens of the future."
